History
The Multimedia Development Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with Creative Commons on March 29, 2005 to begin porting Creative Commons licenses to Malaysia. This process involves the drafting of Creative Commons licenses in accordance with Malaysian copyright law, translating the licenses to Bahasa Melayu and conducting public discussions to gather comments, feedback, criticisms and suggestions from the public. The licenses were ready for public comments in August 2005 and we conducted the first public discussion on August 22, 2005 at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort. We continued engaging the public in the project and soliciting comments on the Malaysian Creative Commons licenses. The next two public discussions were conducted at the MSC Innovation Center at Cyberjaya on September 20 and 22, 2005. Our largest public dicussion was conducted at the Tun Suffian Auditorium of the Faculty of Law, University Malaya and was led by Professor Khaw Lake Tee , Dean of the Law Faculty of University Malaya. This took place on October 26, 2005 and members of the music, publishing, blog and photography communities as well as students, academics and industry participated at this public discussion.
