Alina Ng is a graduate of the University of London, University of Cambridge and Stanford Law School. She completed her dissertation, “Commercializing Motion Pictures and Sound Recordings through the Internet: Copyright Law and Technological Change” and her Doctor of Judicial Science at Stanford in June 2004. She is presently an assistant professor at the Mississippi College School of Law.
Hasnul Hadi Samsuddin

Hasnul Hadi Samsudin is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University USA. Currently a Manager (Digital Content) in the Creative Multimedia Department, he joined the Multimedia Development Corporation in Dec 1996 to be part of the pioneer group of the MDeC. He started in the Borderless Marketing Flagship and Worldwide-Manufacturing Web (Now known as E-business Flagship) in which the creation of the National E-Commerce Committee was part of his deliverables, and later headed the MDeC Web Development Team. After 5 years of project managing web development and IT projects for the MDeC, he was absorbed under the Creative Multimedia Cluster Department to head the Creative Applications and Development Center. Currently his role is to manage the creative industries initiative under CMD in various areas of virtual reality, animation, games development and other creative technologies.
Hasnul Nadzrin Shah
Public Project Lead
Hasnul Nadzrin Shah is the Manager for Industry Policy for the Creative Multimedia Department in MDeC. His responsibility includes formulating policy and providing thought leadership on the development of the industry. In addition to that he manages funding initiatives unique to creative content and also participates in developmental programs for creative companies. He has spent the past seven years working in the Internet Industry as a technology entrepreneur in various capacities. Prior to MDeC, he was the CTO of Innovasia, where he helped develop an Islamic Knowledge Management System. He’s also an active supporter of the technology entrepreneur industry in Malaysia. He went to the University of Wisconsin at Madison for his undergraduate studies.

Faridah was born in Penang and is a direct descendant to the famed Kapitan Keling. Exposure to Bangsawan and Chinese Opera as a young child left a lasting impression on the woman who is known today as the First Lady of Malaysian Theatre.

Linda practices in the area of intellectual property and technology. She is widely experienced in matters relating to patents, trade marks, industrial designs and copyright and the litigation, protection and enforcement of such rights. She also represents major clients in the telecommunication, entertainment and media industries and has a special interest in e-commerce and the new media. Linda was identified by the Asia Law Leading Lawyers Survey in 2003 and 2004 as one of the leading lawyers in Asia for intellectual property and is listed as one of Malaysia’s pre-eminent trademark lawyers by the International Who’s Who of Trademark Lawyers, 2004 and the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers 2004/5. Linda is also the author for Malaysia of the publication “Exploiting Images and Image Collections in the New Media,” published by Kluwer Law International.

Jeff Ooi
Photojournalist
Jeff Ooi is a pioneer in citizen journalism in Malaysia and an avid photographer. He founded the award-winning community portal www.usj.com.my, www.lensamalaysia.com and weblog Screenshots at www.jeffooi.com on January 2, 2003. He has written on the Knowledge Economy in Malaysian Business and New media in SUEF! Magazine. He is currently a blogger on CNet Asia. Jeff was awarded Freedom Blogger Award 2004 by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) for the Asian region. Jeff has spoken on Internet, citizen journalism and new media such as Harvard Law School in Massachusetts, Reuters HQ in London, World Summit for Information Society in Tunisia, Expression Under Repression series in Tunis and Amsterdam. Jeff graduated from the Science University of Malaysia (USM) with a BA in Literature, and from RMIT University, Australia, with an MBA in International Management.

Started his career as a Macintosh evangelist (self declared, more like a Salesman) back in 1986, when Apple Computer introduced the Macintosh Graphic Workstation with Desktop Publishing solution that changed the printing industry “landscape” forever. He later joined Fujitsu Malaysia as head of Document Imaging and Data Storage business in 1992. In 2000, he joined Silicon Graphic Inc, SGI, as Channel Manager, when SGI was at its peak with its Virtual Reality Centre, video streaming and high-powered special-effects computational solutions. Then in 2003, he joined Apple Malaysia as Enterprise Systems manager. Tai is now running EcazStudios he co-founded.
Muid Latif

Under the influence of the late Ismail Zain and his mentor, Jailani Abu Hassan and Ramlan Abdullah, Muid Latif is one of Malaysia’s noted digital artist and designer who had been in the digital art scene for almost 10 years since 1998, bringing elements of ‘kerawang’ decorative, ‘Wayang Kulit’ and ‘Kuda Kepang’ into digital animation and web art. He had been exhibiting his work together with his group, Digital Malaya Project (DMP) from Singapore, Bangkok, and Jakarta to Berlin, Germany. DMP has also been selected as Media Supporter for Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2008. His passion into illustrations also brought him into graffiti and freestyle animation for few TVC & MTV. Omar Lee Abdullah

Omar has been involved in the multimedia industry since 1982 where he started out producing jingles for Commercials. A year later he moved on to producing soundtracks, photography and programming for computer-controlled Multi-Image 35mm Slide Presentations. In 1992, he helped setup a Computer Based Multimedia Education Program for schools. Besides delivering Multimedia Encyclopedia and Educational software like Microsoft Encarta, he also lead a team to produce exam revision programs based on the Malaysian School Syllabus. In 1996 he set-up and headed a Web Development Dept. in VHQ KL. Since 1998, he has been running his own Web Development and Multimedia Consulting business. A member of the CC Malaysia since 2006, he helps in the annual competition and provides advice for the CCM website.
Ooi Kok Hooi

Ooi Kok Hooi is a graduate in Computer Science and Applied Maths from Monash University, Australia. Having spent 15 years in the ICT industry in various capacities, Ooi is currently the Regional Marketing Manager for FSBM M2B Sdn Bhd, a fully integrated media company, specializing in aggregation, distribution, syndication and production of digital entertainment. Ooi’s role in the company includes penetration of new markets and acquisition of contents. Being a movie and music buff, Ooi was roped in as one of the judges for the Malaysian Creative Commons Competition in 2006. Currently he is in the Creative Commons committee to promote CC in Malaysia.
Tan Tze Meng
Open Source
Tze Meng graduated with a BSc (Eng) in Computer Engineering from Queen Mary College in 1986. He has been a strong proponent of Open Source software for the last 10 years and he sees Creative Commons as a natural extension of the Open Source mindset and ethic to creative media. Tze Meng’s role is primarily to guide the CC Malaysia team based on parallels in the Open Source community in Malaysia where he used to lead the awareness program for the Malaysian National Computing Confederation’s Open Source Special Interest Group (MNCC OSSIG). On the creative side he has been a keen photographer since 1980 and considers himself a serious amateur and ‘secretly’ harbours a dream of going professional.

Jinny Wong

Often described as unconventional, Jinny Wong is a Bachelor of Computer Science graduate from Monash University, who then took a jump into the opposite end of the spectrum and did sociology research, earning herself a Postgraduate Diploma in Arts from the same university. She is also an early adopter of Creative Commons licensing, embracing the Commons back in 2003 to protect her rights and share her classical music recordings, digital paintings and photography. In between working in web design, development as well as conducting Apple training, she co-maintains the Creative Commons Malaysia website.

An exceptionally talented group of lawyers from Tay & Partners in Kuala Lumpur analyzed, modified and translated the Creative Commons licenses. Choy Sook Yee

Sook Yee graduated in 2002 from the University of London with an LL.B (Hons) and obtained her Certificate in Legal Practice in 2003. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2004. Sook Yee practices in the areas of intellectual property, litigation and enforcement relating to intellectual property rights.

Julia graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK with an LLB (Hons) (Second Upper) in 2003. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2005. Julia practices exclusively in the field of Intellectual Property, specializing in the areas of trade mark prosecution and protection. She is also involved in litigation work dealing with civil infringement and other disputes concerning intellectual property rights.

Tan Tze Meng

Vernon’s experiences are mostly with the television and film production companies. He was earlier involved in the production of the first short animation series made for TV and later involved in Malaysia’s first feature length 3D animation made for the cinema, where Vernon was the Post Production Director. He was also involved in effects animation for feature films. Involved in training, first as a trainer for Asia Institute Broadcast Development (AIBD), and later for Akademi Filem Malaysia. He was instrumental in setting up both the linear and non-liner labs for the Multimedia University, which he also managed. He also designed training programs for secondary students which educate on using multimedia tools to tell stories effectively.
